Scripture: Acts 1:6-8

Worldly power is forceful, dominating, controlling, winner-take all, coercive and about reigning primarily in nature. What is power according to the gospel?

Power according to Jesus

  1. Complete submission to the Father (John 5:19-21)
  2. Rejection of worldly status (Philippians 2:6)
  3. Humility, Service and Love are the qualities of Jesus’ Power (John 13:1-5)
  4. Non-Coercive Nature toward outsiders (Luke 9:51-56)

Power given to the followers of Jesus

  1. Gospel Power is NOT trying to lord it over others (Matthew 20:24-28 – “Not so with you”)
  2. The Authority Given to Jesus gives us a Purpose (Matthew 28:18-20)
  1. Gospel Power is NOT geo-political power (Acts 1:6-8)
  2. Gospel Power is Transformational (Acts 4:8-13)
  3. Gospel Power is for Salvation (Romans 1:16)
  4. Gospel Power is not about us, but God (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
  5. Gospel Power is displayed through our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9)
