Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Another version (NLT) says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” This verse has been meaningful to me because it reminds me of my choice to either live by my own limited understanding or give everything I have to God and trust that he has a plan for my life.
I put off baptism for a long time because I listened to my fear and depended on my own understanding. This verse showed me not only that I need to depend on God but also that submitting to Jesus means giving everything to him and trusting that he has forgiven all my sins. So, because I believe in Jesus as my Lord and Savior, I am getting baptized as a step and symbol of love and obedience to God.
