The book of 2 Peter calls believers to believe the “more sure” truth of the gospel as the antidote to sin and safeguard against corrupt teaching. False teachers within the church erroneously claimed a sinful lifestyle was permitted due to their “freedom in Christ” and that there’d be no return of Christ in judgment. Peter claims such teachers were “slaves of sin and corruption”.
