The book of Hosea begins this way: “The Lord said to Hosea, ‘Go, marry a promiscuous woman.’” (Hosea 1:2a). Why? Because that’s what the unfaithfulness of God’s people was like—his people choosing many lovers rather than remaining faithful to the one true God. This isn’t just a compelling start to the story but also the conflict which must be resolved. Thankfully, the hero of the story is up to the challenge to bring resolution through his great faithfulness.
